The School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan, one of the highest ranked public universities in the nation and one of the world’s preeminent research institutions, invites applications and nominations for a faculty position at the level of tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor for an individual specializing in exercise, physical activity, movement skills and/or health disparities in individuals with disabilities with preferred start date in August 2020 or January 2021. Candidates will be expected to maintain a robust, ongoing research program, teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, and possess research expertise appropriate for effective mentoring of trainees at the undergraduate, graduate (masters/doctoral), and post-doctoral levels in the area of Applied Exercise Science or Movement Science. Successful candidates will be expected to maintain extramural funding for an active research program at the University of Michigan.
The School of Kinesiology (www.kines.umich.edu) is one of 19 independent academic units and one of seven health science schools and colleges within the University of Michigan. The School is led by a Dean, and has 31 tenure-line faculty and approximately 1000 students. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Rehabilitation Science or related field and have experience in a post-doctoral fellowship or faculty position. Applicants must demonstrate evidence of an independent line of research focused on using exercise to promote health and functioning for populations with disabilities. Along with a publication record commensurate with experience, successful candidates at the Assistant Professor level will have demonstrated the potential for the following: 1) to secure extramural research funding, 2) to mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and 3) to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise. At the rank of Associate Professor, the successful candidate will also have demonstrated a consistent and ongoing record of securing extramural research funding, and will have experience and skill in providing leadership that will advance the scholarly excellence of the School of Kinesiology.
While not a requirement, we are particularly interested in applicants who could contribute to our federal Leadership Training Project funded by the US Office of Special Education Programs for 18 consecutive years involving the research training of doctoral and post-doctoral scholars conducting research involving infants, children, or young adults with a disability. The School of Kinesiology has a long history conducting basic and applied research that address populations with disabilities with many opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in Kinesiology and across campus.
