The Student Health and Well-being (SHW) cluster of the UC San Diego Health System plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture at UC San Diego that enables all students to flourish in body, mind and spirit. This includes promotion and the expansion/development of a student health and well-being center, and the transformation of existing departments, under the oversight of the executive director, into a cohesive, trans-disciplinary source of integrated wellness services. The SHW cluster includes the departments of Student Health Services (SHS), Health Promotion Services (HPS), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and SHW Administration.
SHS provides primary medical care, including urgent care and support services such as laboratory, pharmacy, and x-ray to over 39,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students. SHS staff consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, pharmacists, x-ray technologists, clinical laboratory scientists, medical lab assistants, optometrists, medical assistants, health educators, administrative and other healthcare professionals. Under supervision, responsible for greeting and initial assistance to customers; answering telephones and directing calls; operating credit card terminal and handling customer payment transactions including refunds and voids. Proficient at reviewing and entering patient information pertaining to pharmacy, computer entry of prescriptions, pharmacy insurance billing, and navigating pharmacy and hospital computer systems.
Will primarily be responsible for supporting key activities associated with the Student Health Services Pharmacy Department. The tasks also includes but are not limited to the following: selling "Ready to Dispense" prescription medications and over-the-counter medications, assisting patients in purchasing over-the-counter products, and facilitating any questions from patients to RPh. Responsibility as lead Pharmacy Clerk, includes oversight for training and assisting in training both current and new employees to clerk duties and projects as necessary. Will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Responsible for troubleshooting credit card terminal and other related issues. Will assist with updating cash handling policies and procedures and inter-departmental audits.
Demonstrated experience handling functions in a pharmacy as well as assisting licensed pharmacists in selling and preparing medication for patients.
Proven experience using electronic medical record to retrieve and review information and accurately enter data for patients. Strong computer proficiency in all relevant hardware and software.
General knowledge of Over the Counter (OTC) medical products and information.
Proven ability to process credit card transactions, run settlement reports for end of day closing procedures, reconcile receipts, and ensure that payments are entered into the electronic medical record.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate detailed and complicated information.
Experience protecting confidentiality and patient privacy.
Customer service experience working as an assistant in an ambulatory clinical setting.
EPIC electronic medical record experience.
Knowledge of UCSD campus cash policies and procedures, as well as general pharmacy protocols.
Knowledge of UCSD and departmental policies, procedures, and tools.
