Assists with management of, and directly performs clinical and clerical activities related to patient access, scheduling, registration, reception, payment and clinical care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Contributes to the achievement of excellence in health care delivery to fulfill the mission of the Department.
Demonstrates strong customer service skills in daily interaction with the public, patients, health care facilities/systems, staff and physicians in the performance of all duties.
Assists in oversight of and performs activities related to pre-registration, registration, check in, check out and scheduling.
Assists in oversight of, and performs activities related to answering and responding to phone calls and messages.
Oversees pre-visit activities in accordance with established workflows to insure completion of essential tasks and data collection prior to the visit, and to maximize the patient experience and efficient delivery of comprehensive care during the visit.
Delivers patient care in accordance with Departmental and Rowan Medicine’s standards, policies and procedures, performing duties of a certified medical assistant.
Provides patient education regarding self-management and assists with the development and maintenance of educational resources for patients.
Oversees completion of clinical and clerical tasks required to meet quality metrics for CQR, ACO, HEDIS, payers and others as requested. Collects data and documentation, and performs data entry.
Participates in Department’s performance improvement activities.
Serves as a resource to clinical and clerical staff in matters related to pre-visit/pre-registration activities, registration, scheduling, payments, deposits, clinical programs, EMR utilization, HIPAA, patient inquiries, record requests, quality metrics and clinical issues. Responds to external inquiries regarding same.
Participates in patient care by coordinating and communicating all information pertinent to the patient's status to the appropriate parties and coordinating or executing on a response until follow up activities have been completed.
Coordinates and responds to patient and physician requests for forms and/or correspondence.
Assists with managing workflows related to various aspects of patient care including but not limited to: pre-authorizations, referrals to specialists, ancillary testing, ER visits, and hospitalizations, home health certifications, prescriptions.
Serves as a super user for Centricity (IDX and EMR).
Serves as a staff trainer.
Serve as liaison between consulting physicians, hospitals, ER, nursing facilities and other frequently used healthcare resources and the patient and and/or family.
Is versed in emergency procedures and initiates protocols as needed.
Assists with maintenance and availability of supplies and equipment and insures orderliness of the clinical office.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. Completion of an accredited program in medical assisting with a current certification. Applicants must be able to take temperatures, pulse, blood pressures, give injections, perform EKG’s and perform other simple procedures where indicated. Minimum of two years of experience as a CMA in a primary care practice performing clinical and clerical tasks is required. Knowledge of examinations, diagnostic and treatment procedures, equipment and instruments and front desk procedures/workflows. Prior experience in a lead capacity in a physician office is preferred. Proficient in clinical quality assurance, ability to use good judgment, employ critical thinking skills, and the ability to identify and resolve problems. Experience with Centricity Business and EMR preferred. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and protocols. Must be able to drive to satellite offices.
