This position will serve as Regional Farmers Market Manager for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Broome County and will work under the direction and supervision of the Association Lead Executive Director and the Food Systems Coordinator to assist in the planning of educational programs and activities. This position will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Regional Farmers Market and Market Readiness Programming per the established Plan of Work. This position will work with the agricultural community to enhance the economic vitality of agri-businesses in Broome County and the surrounding region. This position will utilize established resources to support, manage and coordinate educational programming efforts provided to farmers and venders regarding marketing of products that will increase access to local agricultural markets. The primary role of this position will be overall market management and outreach to agriculture producers, new food entrepreneurs, new/beginning farmers and the general public. Additionally, the primary goals for the position are to build a vibrant platform for new and innovative markets, creating solid vendor and customer base. This position is expected to assist in the identification and procurement of grant funds for program development, sustainability and expansion.

This position is a full-time exempt position - 87.5% FTE. The annual salary is $35,568.00. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.

Provide input to support the planning of educational programs to include, but not limited to planning the delivery of established educational program goals and planning the structure of delivering educational programs via various methods.
Provide input in anticipating or planning for Farmers Market Program expenses.
Assist the Association Lead Executive Director with anticipating or projecting program expenses.
Assist the Association Lead Executive Director by providing program related information to the budget development process and assist the Association Lead Executive Director in allocating budget amounts.
Assist the Association Lead Executive Director in the planning of Farmers Market fund development activities as appropriate.
Provide moderately complex administrative assistance to include, but not limited to, planning for mass media efforts related to the Farmers Market Program; assisting the Association Lead Executive Director in planning effective strategic marketing efforts, including major public affairs events and functions.
Assist the Association Lead Executive Director by providing Farmers Market Program related information to the staffing plan development process.
Assist with creating linkages between wholesale food buyers and the agricultural community for the purpose of establishing and expanding current markets.
Assist the Association Lead Executive Director in the writing and development of grant applications to secure funding for ongoing/expanded programming efforts.
Management - 75%
Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the Farmers Market Program utilizing appropriate policies and procedures, as needed.
Assist the Association Lead Executive Director in ensuring Farmers Market Program activities conform with the Association's Plan of Work.
Support the allocation of program resources to accomplish Association program objectives within the Farmers Market Program.
Assist the Association Lead Executive Director with the monitoring of Farmers Market Program income/expenses to ensure spending is within the program budget constraint.
Assist in providing existing guidance to Farmers Market Program volunteers in accordance with established practices and procedures.
Ensure the Farmers Market Programs meet health, safety and other licensing standards and provide quality Farmers Market Program experiences.
Provide management (including recruitment and selection) and supervision (including guidance, performance feedback and annual performance reviews) to designated staff and provide oversight for program volunteers in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocol.
Provide regular staffing updates to the Association Lead Executive Director as required.
Monitor and schedule staff time to ensure program needs are met.
Coordination/Operation - 10%
Organize and coordinate all program activities related to the Farmers Market and Market Readiness Programming, such as: scheduling of subject-matter specific workshops (including Market Readiness training, GAPs/FSMA, wash water, etc.), farm visits to provide support in a successful GAPs audit, and others as defined by funder.
Develop and grow new markets within the Regional Farmers Market platform.
Assist in the identification and procurement of grant funds for program development, sustainability and expansion.
Maintain relationships with constituents and the community by utilizing various methods of communication such as writing newsletters, sending emails, updating social media, and creating website postings and content in support of Farmers Market and Market Readiness Programming.
Coordinate, compile and organize existing program resources and program materials.
Assist in the procurement of grant funds for program development and expansion.
Coordinate and support the Advisory Committee consisting of local producers, agri-businesses, and community members to assist with program implementation and planning.
Collect evaluation data and program needs assessments from program participants based on existing evaluation framework and guidelines.
Under the direction of the Association Lead Executive Director, provide moderately complex administrative support to prepare materials for report submission to meet grant/contract funding requirements, including, but not limited to: impact statements and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board of Directors and others as requested.
Under the direction of the Association Lead Executive Director, provide moderately complex administrative support to accomplish financial goals within the Farmers Market/Market Readiness Program to include, but not limited to: preparing materials for grant/contact proposal submission and providing required information needed in the financial documentation to meet the grant/budget requirements.
Under the direction of the Association Lead Executive Director, coordinate and assist with Farmers Market/Market Readiness projects and outreach efforts as instructed.
Coordinate effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, and multi-media efforts.
Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.
This position may require the transport of program participants and/or program materials and resources in performing position responsibilities.
