The Computing Services central IT department provides services that have strategic impact on university goals. The Service Management and Communications team in Computing Services is seeking a fixed-term Technical Writer. In this position, you will work with senior writing staff and project teams to plan and develop content to meet the objectives and needs of the campus community. We are looking for someone to work successfully under direct supervision of senior staff, but also collaborate as part of a team. You will work closely with senior writers along with subject matter experts to understand new or changing technology/services and how they will meet the business needs of our customers. Based on project needs, you will develop appropriate content to support our services including, but not limited to, web page content, instructional materials, internal technical support guides, communications, and marketing materials.
Core responsibilities will include:
* Content analysis, development and delivery: web content, instructional and internal technical knowledge development, marketing materials, communications; including content usability testing. * Community outreach: service specific outreach activities and student outreach events. * Other duties as assigned You should be able to travel both domestically and internationally and be willing to work outside of normal business hours as needed.
* Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Instructional Design or equivalent discipline required * 0-3 years of relevant experience required * Experience in writing technical documentation, instructional materials and communications * Familiarity with web-based communication techniques and strategies * Close attention to detail, strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task * Flexible personality who is able to adapt and embrace change and new technology * Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to interview customers and subject matter experts to gather service detail * Ability to quickly learn new software and other technologies * Content management and style/standards experience * MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InDesign), HTML, CSS a plus Flexibility, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within Computing Services.
