TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I , Aeronautics and Astronautics , to work on CubeSat technology demonstration missions with Professor Kerri Cahoy, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate research assistants in the MIT Space Telecommunications, Radiation, and Astronomy Laboratory (STAR Lab). Duties will include developing technology demonstration CubeSat payloads for the purpose of optical communication, Earth observation imaging, space physics, or astrophysics; creating and maintaining block diagrams and schematics for the payloads; performing systems engineering analyses and developing budgets to ensure payloads are meeting requirements, including simulation; creating and maintaining interface control documents, software, functional and environmental test plans, and user manuals for instruments; building and testing engineering model and flight model versions of the instruments for operation in the space environment; supporting launch service provider and NASA documentation, review, and reporting requirements; and supporting on-orbit operations.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : bachelor's degree in a field related to aerospace engineering or mechanical engineering; At least two years' laboratory experience in a research lab setting or aerospace industry; Willingness to learn new techniques and protocols; Ability to work independently and as part of a team, follow complex instructions, plan and troubleshoot experiments independently, and respond to the dynamic needs of the lab; self-motivation; attention to detail; excellent organizational and communication skills, including the ability to carefully document and maintain work in detailed written records; discretion and good judgment with confidential issues/information; experience with spacecraft power systems, avionics, communication systems, embedded system programming, and printed circuit board design, fabrication, and testing; and experience with SolidWorks, CAD, and machine shop fabrication.
