Primary Purpose: Reporting to the Executive Director, Campus Life, the Associate Director, Pacific Recreation is responsible for development, administration and oversight of Pacific Recreation programs, services, and facilities including: Competitive Sports (Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs), Pacific Recreation Facilities, Fitness, Member Services, Outdoor Recreation, Campus Outreach, Wellbeing and Staff Development across three campuses.
Essential Functions: 1. Makes independent decisions and provides direction to others in the development and management of a comprehensive Collegiate Recreation Program including; Competitive Sports Programs, Fitness, Member Services, Recreation Facilities, Outdoor Recreation, Wellbeing and Staff Development.
2. Responsible for direct supervision, hiring, training and evaluation of two full time professional staff, two graduate assistants and approximately 100 part time student and temp/casual employees.
3. Oversees and manages the day-to-day operations and serves as fiscal manager of Pacific Recreation programs, services and facilities.
4. Responsible for the management of Pacific Recreations budgets including, making management decisions, interpreting and ensuring University policies, procedures are followed regarding revenues, expenses and reimbursements while providing updates to the Executive Director, Campus Life.
5. Develops and executes short and long-term financial strategies including revenue forecasting and planning for operational and capital budgets.
6. Identifies policy and procedure changes for all Pacific Recreation programs, services and facilities, suggests and implements suggested changes to the program.
7. Interprets, administers and ensure compliance with all University policies and procedures for the Pacific Recreation programs and makes recommended policy changes to the Executive Director.
8. Independently ensures the development, coordination, organization and implementation of a student staff development program that includes; workshops, trainings, seminars, new hire orientations, professional skills trainings, student committee oversight and employee recognition programs.
9. Develops and maintains vendor relationships and formalizes contracts.
10. Serves as a member of the Campus Life departmental management team responsible for development, execution, and evaluation of departmental goals, strategic plans, policies, and programs.
11. Serve as Risk Management consultant for Pacific Recreation and is the primary liaison between Pacific Recreation and the Department of Risk Management.
12. Assists in the implementation of the Emergency Action Plan associated with all Pacific Recreation programs and facilities. Coordinates and instructs CPR/First Aid/AED classes to Pacific Recreation staff members and the University community.
13. Prepares participation reports at the conclusion of each activity for use in a year-end report.
14. Represents Pacific Recreation while working with all Student Life and campus partners to create a dynamic and fully collaborative Recreation program including making independent decisions and recommendations on behalf of Pacific Recreation.
15. Oversees the ongoing evaluation of all related programs, including completing participant evaluations and/or assessments, focus groups, informal discussion and written program surveys. Recommends and implements future modifications based on evaluation feedback.
16. Coordinates, prepares and facilitates presentations for major University events geared toward recruiting, retaining and students persistence to graduation.
17. Participates in Division of Student Life events as requested.
18. Preforms other duties as assigned by Executive Director, Campus Life and when designated can act in the absence of the Executive Director, Campus Life.
This position serves as Campus Security Authority (CSA) as outlined by the Clery Act. CSAs have federally mandated responsibilities to report crimes that are reported them.
Minimum Qualifications: Masters Degree in student personnel, higher education, sports administration, recreation, exercise science or related field. Three (3) years progressive experience in Collegiate Recreation Programs including a combination of Competitive Sports Programs, Fitness, Member Services, Recreation Facilities, Outdoor Recreation, Wellbeing and Staff Development. Proven ability to lead and supervise staff. Proven ability to design and implement sport, recreational, fitness and wellbeing programs. Ability to develop and manage departmental budgets. Ability to identify resources to generate income and revenues. Standard CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification (to be obtained within three (3) months of employment) Must consistently demonstrate good judgment and decision-making abilities. Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications: Five (5) years progressive experience in Collegiate Recreation Programs including a combination of Competitive Sports Programs, Fitness, Member Services, Recreation Facilities, Outdoor Recreation, Wellbeing and Staff Development. Experience with software systems including; Innosoft Fusion, Innosoft FusionIM, EMS, SubItUp and Reach Media. Experience working with Student Organization Club Officers and Program Council/Executive Board. Demonstrated experience in student recreation centers, student activities, student life or student development. Involvement in professional societies and organizations. Ability to direct management goals, to facilitate change and create innovative programs. Interpersonal skills that facilitate collaborative and cooperative environments.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel Work is primarily performed both in a standard office and gym and sports environments. May require work performed on non-standard business times both on weekends and evenings.
