Job Summary/Basic Function: Summary: This position is responsible for opening and closing the entire building and overseeing the daily operations of the Circulation/Reserves desk, including student employees, in coordination with other library faculty and staff.
Opening and closing the building including overseeing student employees as they perform assigned task related to opening and closing procedures
Overseeing daily operations including: completing all daily tasks in Circulation, Reserves, and Inter Library Loan, as well as overseeing daily duties of student employees
Perform all task relevant to the operation of Circulation/Reserves including cross training other staff members and training the student employees on operations relevant to their daily task
Will be assigned to work evenings and/ or weekend hours
Provide customer service including: guiding patrons to the point of service that will be able to best meet their need as well as assisting with all Circulation, Reserves, and Inter Library Loan requests
Maintains the stacks including: maintenance of the stacks and second floor collections, re-shelving books and periodicals, inventory of books and shifting of books to alleviate overcrowding as well as training, overseeing, and assisting student employees in these task
Serve as backup for staff and/or students as needed
Performs other tasks as assigned
Maintains and acquires new skills and knowledge both to remain up-to-date for compliance and to enhance job skills
Participates on library and university committees as assigned or as time permits
Minimum Qualifications: Education / Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent required; some college credit is a plus A minimum of two years experience in retail and/or customer service preferred
Knowledge: Standard library and office practices and procedures Understand, interpret and carry out detailed oral and written instructions Basic computer skills including: internet navigation and Microsoft Office Communicate with faculty, staff, students, and the general public
Skills: Working ability to search for and locate library print and electronic resources Good oral and written communication skills Ability to interact and communicate with faculty, staff, students, and library patrons Capable of working with a diverse population Capable of learning and using workflows Capable of using copy machines, fax machines, printers, computers, scanners, and cash registers Understand, interpret, and carry out detailed oral and written instructions Good customer service skills
