Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Mental Health Specialist IV-Per Diem for Child & Adolescent Services – School Based Program at Rutgers, University Behavioral Health Care.
The Mental Health Specialist IV participates as a member of the School Based Program's staff providing therapeutic and special education services to children. Assists the Special Education teacher in the classroom by providing education services to children and behavior crisis prevention and intervention.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary staff team assisting in the development and implementation of each child's treatment plan.
Helps implement the classroom behavior management system.
Observes children carefully and shares observations with other members of the team.
Assists children with self-care skills and activities of daily living, encouraging developmentally appropriate and independent behavior.
Assists in maintaining a safe, clean, orderly, and therapeutic environment.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Successful completion of a one (1) year training program as a Mental Health Specialist trainee or one (1) year of similar full-time experience in the mental health field.
An Associate's degree, preferably in a related field, including 12 credits in human services, such as psychology or its equivalent, may be substituted for the minimum requirements of this position.
Previous experience with patients, 3½ – 21 years of age.
Must undergo a fingerprint background check at candidate's expense, as required by NJ State Law.
