LSA Technology Services has an exciting opportunity to develop the strategy, design, implementation and operations across research computing, end user computing, infrastructure and security services. We are looking for a leader who has demonstrated consistent commitment to instructional and research missions of the institution, partners with faculty and college leaders to align services to needs and optimizes staff strengths to ensure effective service and continuous improvement. You will have oversight and operational responsibilities for approximately 50 staff who support multiple services, technology and capabilities including: end user computing, network operations, security and risk management, server, database, storage and primary software. As the leader of this team, you will report to the Chief Information Officer for LSA, work collaboratively and in partnership with other members of the CIO’s leadership teams and lead the research technology, infrastructure, end-user computing and security strategies and champion continuous improvements for LSA Technology Services.

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education, certification and experience.
Ten (10) years of experience in a service leadership role with a technology infrastructure focus.
A minimum of (10) years of experience supervising others.
Three (3) years of experience managing IT infrastructure projects and services.
Planning, change management, consulting and communication skills, analytical ability, and management skills.
Experience breaking complex technical challenges down into tactical steps with appropriate timing, phases and influence considerations.
Experience guiding and mentor teams to meet customer expectations.
Experience leading improvements.
Excellent partner management -- fair in dealings with vendors and other service provider partners.
Experience managing budgets.
3 years’ experience designing and supporting an IT infrastructure stacks including hardware (servers, data storage, networking, converged systems), virtualization, management, automation and orchestration and the means to provide the applications to the customer in the form of client systems (smartphones, laptops, tablets, thin clients).
Experience providing or leading technology infrastructure or comparable team (s) in a higher education environment.
Experience providing and supporting high performance computing or other advanced research technology computing services.
Certification or experience applying cloud infrastructure platforms.
The ability to share technical information in simple, non-technical terms.
Experience leading cross-organizational improvements.
Experience working with the University of Michigan and LSA communities including, faculty, students, staff, and senior leaders.
This position may work with and/or support systems that maintain or process sensitive institutional data as defined by university policy. Successful candidates must comply with federal, state and local law and/or university policies or agreements that require the university to implement specific privacy and security safeguards including, but not limited to: ITAR, EAR, HIPAA and FISMA.
