Representing the College of Education Research Administration Office at Michigan State University, this position will be responsible for providing primary support to faculty researchers related to Pre-Award administration; specific job duties and responsibilities include: proposal announcement review, preliminary project review, budget development and justification; coordinating timely proposal completion and submission while ensuring appropriate approvals; assisting with sub-recipient document coordination and co-investigator agreements; functioning as a team member to assemble research proposals; serving as liaison between Principal Investigator, sponsor/funding source, and Central Administration (Office of Sponsored Programs/Contract and Grant Administration, MSU Business Connect, MSU technologies, Office of Regulatory Affairs, etc.); serving as an information resource to department personnel regarding project budgets (set-up and revisions), subcontracts, University policies and procedures, and government rules and regulations; providing assistance with project account closeout activities as required; and other duties as assigned to carry out the mission of Michigan State University.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Education, or a research-related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research administration in one or more of the research process areas of pre- or post-award processes, such as regulatory administration; experience in word processing, spreadsheet and database software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The job also requires: completion of Essentials of Research Administration at MSU certificate series or equivalent within one year of hire.
Experience with Federal, State, International, foundation and University grant submission processes; one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in grant budget and proposal development, financial statement and report preparation, general ledger accounting, and budgeting; experience in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software; ; ability to work effectively on multiple tasks with changing priorities; displays strong interpersonal skills, including oral and written communications; experience with project and office management; displays a great attention to detail; demonstrates a work orientation that includes problem solving, seeing the bigger picture, forecasting potential trouble spots, taking initiative, the ability to work as part of a team and independently, and a dedication to continuous self-improvement.
