The Caudill College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position OR non-tenure track Instructor position of Strategic Communications & Head Forensics Coach to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in the School of English, Communication, Media & Language, maintain an active program of research, and engage in professional service. Responsibilities involve the formation and coaching of an intercollegiate forensics team at Morehead State University (MSU). This includes the active recruitment of new and continuing students, coaching, planning and overseeing the budget and travel, and building visibility for the program. The coach will attend tournaments in the region and travel with students to competitions, engage in program building, meet with related community stakeholders in and outside of the university, and actively recruit from the current student body and potential students. In addition to directing the forensics program, candidates are expected to teach courses in rhetoric, persuasion, argumentation, and basic public speaking, conduct scholarly research, advise students, and participate in departmental and university service. Responsibilities include teaching spring and fall semesters, in a mix of 2 to 3 undergraduate and graduate courses each semester.? Courses will include both face-to-face and online formats. The position is open to individuals with teaching interests in all areas of communication. As a teaching focused institution, MSU requires excellent teaching skills (particularly as they relate to active learning strategies) and proficiency in oral and written communication. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a strong interest in continued professional development and outreach activities at the local, national, and international levels.
Requirements for the Assistant Professor: Doctorate in Communication or closely related discipline; however, ABDs who are close to completion are also encouraged to apply. Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication is expected. Ability to travel with, transport, and supervise college students. (Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.) Requirements for the Instructor: Master’s Degree in Communication. Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication is expected. Ability to travel with, transport, and supervise college students. (Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.) Teaching experience, research, and professional development activities appropriate to candidate’s areas of teaching and research are preferred.
