Job Summary: The Communications Specialist works with a department or area to develop and implement communication plans and activities to support the goals of a specific department, a college and/or The University.
Additional Department Summary: Works with The Plank Center's director and its board of advisors to develop and implement communication plans and activities to support the goals of the Center. Responsible for communication with external and internal public's across media platforms. Participates in the planning and execution of special events and projects to support the overall communication strategies of the Center. Has demonstrated ability to conceive and execute initiatives that:
- Deliver on the Plank brand promise to stand as a resource to the PR profession. - Provide content to three defined audiences – professionals, educators and students – driving new perceptions of Plank as an essential engine of relevant, useful, vocational content. - Oversee creation and continuous updating of high-impact, standardized assets that convey Plank’s distinct market positioning, scale, impact and contributions to the profession. - Draft, edit and deliver messaging through available channels, including print ads, website, social media, newsletter database, presentations and other materials supporting internal and external communications.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing, or Advertising and one (1) year experience in journalism, public relations, marketing, or communications; OR Master's degree Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing, or Advertising. Related student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented experience will be considered. To be considered student experience, it must be detailed in the employment section on the application.
Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge and experience with InDesign and Photoshop software. Knowledge of AP style and PR writing experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Great collaborative skills, innovative thinking, best-in-class practices gleaned from interactions with peers in the communications profession, and strategic counseling ability.
Knowledge of public relations environment/communications community, and ability to network and cultivate relationships in that community.
Professional experience in social media use.
