Job Summary: The Mental Health Professional I provides professional clinical services to their clients.
Additional Department Summary: The Mental Health Professional I provides clinical services to children and youth with illegal sexual behaviors and their families. The primary responsibilities of this person are to complete assessments of children and youth, conduct risk assessments, help formulate and implement individualized treatment plans and provide individual and group counseling services to the juvenile sex offender. This person will coordinate their work with a designated treatment team. This therapist will serve Autauga, Elmore, and Montgomery counties and other areas of the program's service area based upon program needs.
Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in a mental-health related field such as counseling, psychology or social work. Social work degree must be from a School of Social Work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Persons who provide direct treatment services to criminal juvenile sex offenders shall be licensed or license eligible to practice in their professional discipline by the appropriate State of Alabama licensing authority where applicable. Persons who are licensed eligible must obtain their license within one year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred qualifications include two years of experience with children or youth with mental or behavior health diagnoses or court-involved children or youth . Preference will also be given to applicants with experience working with youth with illegal sexual behaviors.
