Business Manager Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education February 6, 2020
The Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education invites applicants to apply for the position of Business Manager. The Center unites resources and capabilities from the University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory to promote advanced research and to provide innovative solutions to global challenges in energy, engineering, and computation. Seeking to create opportunities for exceptional students to engage in interdisciplinary research and education, the Bredesen Center offers a doctoral degree in either Energy Science or Data Science and Engineering with knowledge breadth in entrepreneurship, public policy and outreach. This position reports to the Director of the center and manages business, financial, budgeting, human resource and administrative operations of the center unit in alignment with our vision.
This position carries full signature authority delegated by the Bredesen Center Director for fiscal and human resource related matters. The manager will oversee the direction in the daily business operations of the unit.
Duties/responsibilities will include:
*Coordinate and support the interdisciplinary initiatives being led by the Bredesen Center director with leadership from UT campuses and ORNL and by arranging meetings, preparing summaries, and ensuring follow up. *Manage center budget, finance, grants and contracts and prepare center reports related to vision and mission of the center
*Manage two support staff by prioritizing work plans, determining training needs and ensuring teamwork and collaboration and supporting the academic advisor as a peer in the recruitment and on-boarding events.
*Approve IRIS transactions (as Director's substitute): time entry, pay funding, changes, travel, procurement, facilities, human resource, monthly ledgers and financial transactions *Approve paper forms, I-9 verifications and other human resources related activities *Communicate and coordinate with ORNL, students, UT faculty, staff and the board of directors on various issues related to day-to-day center operations.
