University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), the School of Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences Department has an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Research Assistant. This position is responsible for laboratory research and laboratory maintenance to support the department's research activities. This position is within the department's Good Manufacturing Practices "GMP" Facility and actively engaged in the development of drug products for clinical studies and our partners include governmental agencies, businesses, and the University Hospital.

P rimarily, perform laboratory research, laboratory maintenance, and activities such as: running High Pressure Liquid Chromatography "HPLC" assays, sample preparation, assay solution preparation. General laboratory measurements including collect spectroscopic data using UV-vis, NIR and IR.
Perform GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing of solid and liquid dosage forms, keep GMP records. Perform the measurements of dosage form properties such as dissolution and conduct thermal analysis measurements including DSC, TGA and rheological properties of polymer solutions. For these tasks experience is preferred, but we are willing to train a successful applicant.
Compile and analyze research data using various relevant computer software applications.
Assist with literature research, editing and preparing manuscripts and grants, scientific illustrations and computer graphics for publication.
Perform administrative duties such as: training and guiding students and/or other laboratory technicians; assisting in developing policies, procedures and/or methods for laboratory experimentation; and ordering supplies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering (ChemE), biochemistry or field of study related to the research of the laboratory.
Experience: One year of relevant research specialization preferred.
Other: May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, working with and processing hazardous materials.
