Description The Kutys Lab is seeking a Junior/Assistant/Associate/Full Specialist to join our group and contribute to new and ongoing projects (www.kutyslab.org). We study mechanisms controlling tissue morphogenic processes associated with human development, regeneration, and disease by developing cutting-edge 3D biomimetic models of human tissues (organs-on-chip). Combining these models with advanced imaging, cellular engineering, proteomics, and biochemical approaches, we investigate the molecular and mechanical mechanisms that conspire across time and length scales to organize and shape human tissues, and their breakdown in cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
The successful candidate will work closely with the PI to learn necessary skills (related to 3D tissue platforms) and will be responsible for providing technical support for all projects running in the laboratory, as well as general lab management. Tasks will include: maintenance of primary human cell cultures, generation and assembly of microfluidic platforms, microscopic imaging, and basic molecular biology procedures such as bacterial culture, lentivirus generation, IF staining, and Western blotting. An exceptional candidate will lead their own independent project, develop new ideas, be familiar with the literature, and participate in procurement of funds, where appropriate. Additionally, the specialist will be expected to assist with managing day-to-day lab operations, provide technical support for projects running in the laboratory, and be a positive lab citizen. We are seeking at least a 1-year commitment, with a 2-year commitment preferred.

This position provides a growth opportunity to learn cutting-edge experimental skills and approaches focused on advanced 3D human tissue culture models. Growth in independent thinking and communication skills will be fostered through informal and formal presentations, writing protocols, and assisting with figures and writing in both papers and grants. Required Qualifications: • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written). • Willingness and ability to learn new methods and skills for changing research priorities. • Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team. • Ability to prioritize tasks and coordinate work tasks with others. • Specialist appointed at the Junior rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a bachelor’s degree or at least 4 years of research experience. • Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least 5 years of research experience. • Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least 5-10 years of research experience. • Specialists appointed at the Full rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a terminal degree or ten or more years of experience. • Candidates must meet requirements by the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications: • Prior experience with cell/tissue culture techniques. Experience with iPSC or organoid culture is considered a plus. • Prior experience in microscopy (fluorescence, immunostaining, live cell imaging). • Prior experience in molecular biology (DNA cloning, CRISPR design, lentivirus production, electrophoresis, Western blotting). • Prior experience with microfluidics, soft lithography, or micropatterning for cellular assays is a plus.
