Primary Purpose: The Student Success Analyst engages in equity-oriented research, analysis and reporting to better understand, assess, and support undergraduate student success at Pacific. Utilizing quantitative and qualitative research methods, assessment results, and knowledge of effective higher education practices, she/he shapes the ongoing continuous improvement of student success efforts in all programs in Undergraduate EducationGeneral Education (including Developmental Education), Academic Advising (including Student-Athlete Services), Student Academic Support Services (including tutoring, writing support and college learning skills program) and Honors Programs (Freshmen Honors, Legal Scholars and Humanities Scholars).
Essential Functions: 1. Serve the data management and analysis, research and assessment needs of the Undergraduate Education area to advance student success and retention.
2. Develop reports, charts, graphs and tables summarizing findings from data analysis for multiple audiences and in multiple formats (including graphically), using appropriate software.
3. Analyze data:
conduct statistical analyses and interpret results;
extract and prepare data for analysis; use appropriate software programs to select data and generate reports.
4. Analyze assessment results for programs in Undergraduate Education.
5. Manage data:
collect, manage and clean data sets;
create databases and reports;
use system reports and analyses to identify potentially problematic data, make corrections, and determine root cause for data problems from input errors or inadequate field edits, and suggest possible solutions.
6. Collaborate with the university-wide Office of Institutional Research (IR) and Office of the Registrar; use IR databases and research tools and Registrar data reports.
7. Utilize CRM (Customer Relationship ManagementSalesforce) system to access student data and generate reports.
8. Make rational, information-based recommendations.
9. Contribute to fostering a culture of rigorous, research-based analysis to improve practice.
10. Make research highly visible to help maintain the focus of all Undergraduate Education programs and the campus on student success and retention and the best practices to achieve it.
11. Monitor key performance indicators and metrics for student success; advise on changes; report results.
12. Present and explain complex data analysis to a diverse set of constituencies in a clear, concise and visually compelling manner. Keep current on national, state, and local issues in higher education with a special focus on student success, retention and data analytics.
13. Provide training and professional development for data-related skills and literacies for all data generators and consumers in Undergraduate Education to ensure best data management practices and to promote data democracy.
Bachelors degree in Education, Social Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Statistics, or related field employing quantitative data analysis.
Experience working with data analytics.
Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and usage of spreadsheets.
At least two (2) years of experience producing data analytics.
Advanced degree in Education, Social Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Statistics, or related field employing quantitative data analysis.
Demonstrated experience conducting applied social science or educational research, including research methodology, program evaluation, and descriptive and inferential statistical analysis; experience querying analytical databases to support research.
Proficiency accessing information stored in large data systems and use of computer applications, including databases, business intelligence, statistical, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
Excellent analytical skills sufficient to analyze and interpret written material and quantitative data, and to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
Demonstrated experience producing data analytics reports and/or dashboards and presenting it in a variety of formats accessible to lay audiences, including graphically.
Experience analyzing assessment results, especially in a higher education setting.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the abilities to write clear and concise reports and memoranda, and to make public presentations to large groups and explain complex issues.
Abilities to work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team toward common goals, and to coordinate efforts and collaborate with a variety of individuals.
Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and manage multiple activities to meet deadlines.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to complete a variety of assignments with meticulous attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy, and to maintain accurate and detailed records.
Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility to work effectively with senior administration, faculty, staff, students, and the general public in a diverse work environment.
Commitment to educational equity and social justice.
Familiarity with issues in higher education. Familiarity with the educational literature on student retention, progress, and learning outcomes assessment.
Ability to work with discretion when dealing with confidential information.
