The Business & Clinical EPIC Applications Support and Charting/Documentation position (Information Systems Analyst 4) is part of the Finance Division, Patient Revenue - Revenue Integrity & Health Information Management Enterprise services team and responsible for facilitating the availability of current, well documented and legally sound medical records, fully compliant with all Joint Commission health information management standards, relevant federal/state laws, and UCDH policies pertaining to documentation in the medical record. THIS IS NOT AN H1- B OPPORTUNITY ResponsibilitiesAs the lead coordinator or project manager of enterprise-wide multidisciplinary committees, work groups and/or task forces, the Analyst meets with the decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define, develop and implement operational or project-based solutions to medical record-related issues and concerns. The main core areas of responsibilities for this position entail serving as an institutional resource for issues related to medical record documentation and revenue integrity regulatory standards, reviewing medical record documentation for compliance with regulatory and legal requirements, updating policies related to health information management laws and standards, assisting the department and organization to be continuously ready for unannounced surveys (The Joint Commission, CMS, CDPH, etc.), lending clinical knowledge and experience during surveys, responding to questions related to documentation within the EMR, and explaining criteria and report logic used to measure compliance with regulatory standards. The Analyst works closely with medical and nursing leadership in facilitating the development of EMR tools, workflows, and EMR training to ensure optimal documentation and integrity of the health record, as well as an understanding of the technical aspects of data collection, view, use, integration, and reporting (analytics) and actively supports the Health Information & Clinical Informatics Oversight Committee and its various subcommittees and workgroups. The Analyst works with full independence and decision-making responsibility. Uses initiative, originality and independent judgment in applying established principles and practices to new and unusual issues and problems. Plays an active role in continually reviewing and assessing departmental and medical record documentation-related practices to ensure continuous process improvement. Acts as a mentor to other analysts and project leads within the department, provide guidance and support with Legal Medical Record (LMR) Chart Integrity, Content Regulatory Compliance, LMR and related Policies, EPIC Upgrades and Maintenance, Clinical Compliance Report Validation, and e-Discovery. Responsible for e-discovery requests, be deposed and attend depositions and trials as the legal MKP (most knowledgeable person) pertaining to UC Davis Health electronic medical record and integrated technologies. Required Qualifications
Recognized subject matter expert on the challenges associated with maintaining legally sound health records in the hybrid and electronic information environments
Experience with and broad knowledge of all aspects of health information management laws, regulations, standards and requirements as promulgated by The Joint Commission, California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), as well as current enforcement trends related to documentation of healthcare information
Must be able to travel to Chicago for AHIMA seminars or Wisconsin to attend Epic certification training sessions.
Must be able to work overtime and/or flexible hours as needed to meet committed project dates. Must be self-directed and able to work autonomously in a professional and productive manner.
Must be able to participate in the HIM Oncall process by rotation
Experience investigating and interpreting health information laws and standards in relation to internal documentation practices, making recommendations and updating/revising policies to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
Experience developing and documenting policies and procedures related to chart correction, chart integrity and revenue integrity projects and operational tasks
Reporting experience with ability to conduct preliminary review and analysis of the data, creates cases and forwards the information to leadership
Experience supporting ongoing analytics and compliance related to chart corrections, revenue integrity, and the legal medical record
Experience developing and presenting documentation such as project charter, agendas, minutes, status reports and issues logs which are appropriate for management
Experience developing presentation material such as PowerPoint and handouts that are appropriate for the executive level with experience conducting presentations and systems demos for various levels of staff
Bachelor Degree in Nursing highly preferred
RN with over 5 years of experience highly preferred (Combination of clinical and non-clinical RN experience acceptable)
EPIC Certified in 1 or more applications
Experience in using EPIC EMR for clinical documentation preferred.Experience in working with HIM applications, EPIC applications or other system implementation teams for complex projects and/or application development
