The Office of Undergraduate Student Affairs in the College of Arts and Sciences at Ohio University is seeking an Academic Advisor to join our team.
This position is responsible for providing academic advising to students within the College of Arts & Sciences to help them achieve their academic and career related goals. The students served are primarily incoming first-year, at-risk, deciding (undecided), transient, transfer, graduating, prospective, and international students from a variety of backgrounds. CAS Academic Advisors maintain large, active advising caseloads, with the goal of increasing student retention and success by developing and implementing proactive advising interventions. CAS Academic Advisors are also responsible for continuous program improvement efforts including developing, implementing, and assessing existing programs and materials.
1.Provide academic advising to a large, active caseload of deciding (undecided) students to assist them in progressing toward their academic and career related goals. Efforts are aimed at increasing student retention and the creation of individualized advising plans. Tasks include but are not limited to: Assisting with Standards of Academic Progress (SAP) appeals; Assisting students with the reinstatement appeals process and assisting with completing reinstatement agreements; Conducting graduation checks and assisting with re-enrolling students; Referring students to appropriate support services when needed; and Consulting with faculty advisors on a regular basis.
2.Develop and implement programs for at-risk and under-achieving students and coordinate retention efforts for the College of Arts and Sciences. Assist students with degree completion, Guarantee+. Represent the College of Arts and Sciences in Admissions events, e.g. OHIO Discovery Day, OHIO Up Close, and Experience the College of Arts and Sciences Day, Scholar's Day, Multicultural Visitation Program, Spring and Summer Showcase. Coordinate transfer credit practices for the College of Arts & Sciences, including but not limited to: Completing transfer credit evaluations; Reviewing and completing Transient Student Permission Forms; Assisting with the course planning and equation for Study Abroad Check Sheets; Coordinating Departmental Honors; and providing professional advising for incoming first year and transfer students during three yearly Bobcat Student Orientation programs; Assist with commencement activities.
3.Utilize Faculty Advising Center (FAC), My Ohio Success Network (MOSN), On-Base, and other data systems for successful early intervention. Research, maintain, and log information into various databases and catalogs including but not limited to: Course descriptions from other institutions; Ohio University undergraduate catalog update assistance; Course equivalent information in the Student Information System; and transfer and articulation agreements. Complete other duties as assigned including but not limited to: Assist with the graduation conferral and denial process; Act as a liaison for multi-cultural issues; Participate on the Majors Fair committee and act as a liaison between the committee and College of Arts & Sciences departments; Assist with training new staff and advisors in the Office of Undergraduate Student Affairs; and Participate in UC 1900 and Learning Community programming.
Completed Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, Communication, or related field at time of application and one year of experience in a higher education environment
At least 1 year of experience in academic advising in a college/university setting.
