Summary of Duties:
A Research Assistant I position is open in the Dr. Kim's laboratory in the Center for Retrovirus Research at The Ohio State University. The Kim group uses cutting-edge research technologies and animal models in the quest to understand how various pathogens, including HIV-1, and host immune cells interact in the body. The applicant will work under the general supervision of the principal investigator, carrying out the laboratory work in accordance with OSU's Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) policies and guidelines.
Duties include: 1. Performing a variety of routine molecular and cellular biology tests and animal research accurately following established methodologies and protocols. Routine tests may include PCR, cloning, transfection, infection, cell culture, DNA and RNA extraction, quantification, cell isolation from whole blood and tissues from research animals, and flow cytometry analysis; 2. Maintaining and operating standard laboratory equipment, for example centrifuges, PCR, pipetting machines and sample freezers; 3. Discussing progress of work regularly with supervisor; 4. Assisting writing research reports, papers, and grants; 5. Recording and summarizing research data using basic statistics; 6. Maintaining supplies inventory, ensuring the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced; 7. Following and ensuring strict safety procedures and safety checks; 8. Other duties as assigned.
