The Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC) in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is now accepting applications for a Program Coordinator I (Technical Supervisor) in the hospitalâs Small Animal section.
The Program Coordinator I will coordinate clinical service activities and be responsible for the scheduling and supervision of hospital staff including veterinary technicians, animal caretakers and other staff in order to provide quality animal care services to patients in a teaching environment.
The incumbent will additionally provide oversight of scheduling and coordination of medical, diagnostic, and surgical procedures for patientsâ periodic auditing of medical records, review of equipment and facilities needs, evaluation of inventory and special order requests, reporting deficiencies to the Hospital Operations Manager and creating a plan to correct these deficiencies; assisting technicians in their teaching/training of students on aspects of veterinary medicine as well as providing support to technicians in their feedback on student abilities within a rotation. This position will support customer service by acting as an interface between the client, referring veterinarians, and clinical services to enhance continued and timely communications. Other duties include hiring, supervising, training and coordinating technical support services. This position will work independently and collaboratively with the hospitalâs clinical services and administrators in the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) and Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS).
Although routine hospital business hours are from 8:00 am â 5:00 pm on Monday through Friday, the LVMC is open for patient care 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. The incumbent may be asked to answer urgent questions from employees supervised and/or meet with employees during off-peak times, weekends and holidays. Likewise, the supervisor may fulfill duties after-hours, on weekends, or holidays to meet the needs of the service as necessary.
It is essential that this position have a strong knowledge of veterinary technical duties and an understanding of the coordination of services in a hospital setting. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, be self-motivated, able to work independently or as a team, maintain confidentiality, and be detail oriented. Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational qualities, and effective oral and written communications are necessary to be successful in this position. The successful candidate will possess the ability to work with and directly supervise the work of others. The ideal candidate will have professional maturity with a leadership style that contributes to a positive culture, and have a compassionate, and empathetic nature towards the clients and patients of the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center.
