Metropolitan State University, Minnesota's public, urban university, and recipient of the 2017 Insight Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award is seeking to hire an Instructional Designer. This is a fixed-term position until July 14, 2020, with the option of an additional year, within the Center for Online Learning.
Develop and continuously improve online and face-to-face training for web-enhanced and online instruction, with a particular emphasis on curriculum design and the pedagogy of teaching via the Internet.
Design, develop and implement university-wide training for online and web-enhanced instruction.
Provide basic and advanced training in use of the Instructional Management System (IMS) tools and 3rd party software used in IMS
Create training materials including computer-based training materials, classroom training materials, quick reference guides, tutorials, templates and other job aids.
Deliver individual, classroom, and online training in instructional design principles for web-enhanced and online instruction.
Consult and work with resident and community faculty in the design and development of online and web-enhanced courses to develop work plans, course content, and learning objects for online and web-enhanced courses.
Work with Instructional Technologist and Site Administrator to train graduate assistants and work with other members of the online learning team.
Research and work with online learning team members to develop technology and process solutions that support development and delivery of online and web-enhanced courses.
Conduct the internal course review of online/hybrid courses, including: familiarizing faculty with the process, evaluating course and its materials, and providing recommendations for course improvement.

Master's Degree in instructional design or strongly related educational discipline.
3 years of working experience as an instructional designer in on-line teaching in a post-secondary or university-level environment.
Familiarity with the pedagogy/andragogy of online teaching
Ability to work with diverse group of employees and manage projects in a team environment
Commitment to accessibility and interactivity in web-based instructional content
Knowledge of a Learning Management System (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas, or D2L Brightspace)
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize to meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
Customer service & team-oriented, with good verbal and written communication skills.
Strong project management skills and the ability to achieve goals with minimal supervision.
Ph.D or Ed.D in instructional design, curriculum and instruction, or strongly related educational discipline (e.g. educational psychology, cognitive science) .
Knowledge of the D2L Brightspace Learning Management System
Strong Microsoft Office skills and familiarity with web development software such as Dreamweaver and third-party software tools
Quality Matters Peer or Master Reviewer
Physical Requirements of the Job: This position requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Even though the weights being lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
The School/Academic Department: The Center for Online Learning (COL) is a team that combines instructional design, instructional technology, computer programming, and administration, and is housed within the university's Center for Educational Innovation. Since 2003, COL has pursued a mission of partnering with faculty and staff to design and support excellent teaching and learning experiences in online programs and courses.
Online and hybrid classes present unique benefits and challenges to both instructors and the student body. Salary: This is a Minnesota State University Association of Administrative and Service Faculty (MSUAASF) Range C position with a salary range of $43,138 (minimum) to $74,719 (maximum). Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the collective bargaining agreement between Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (Minnesota State) and the MSUAASF organization.
