The Industrial Hygienist coordinates major components of the regulatory-required campus safety and health accident prevention programs. This position provides specific expertise and guidance in WISHA/OSHA-required respiratory protection programs, laboratory safety/chemical hygiene planning/training, worker chemical safety/hazard communication, hazardous waste and hazardous material management, environmental monitoring/analysis, radiation safety, art hazard safety, indoor air quality, and chemical inventory management. In addition to the safety and health programs mentioned above, the position coordinates the chemical inventory system in the science departments which enables the university to comply with mandated homeland security requirements as well as Labor and Industries and Department of Ecology expectations. This position exists to support CWU’s commitment to diversity and to bring and support inclusion into the university environment.
Bachelor's degree in occupational safety/and or health, environmental health, industrial hygiene, chemistray, biology or field appropriate to area of assignment
Experience as a safety officer, industrial hygienist, safety and health manager or related experience
Current Asbestos Supervisor Certification (or acquire within 6 months of accepting position)
Excellent written/oral communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated attention to detail
Must have a current driver’s license
Demonstrated willingness and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and experiences.
OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Experience in laboratory safety, hazardous material management, hazardous waste management
Experience in an academic or research laboratory environment
Certified Industrial Hygienist
Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and website development
Potential to mentor and educate students who will serve diverse populations
Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives and issues into everyday conversations
