It entails a comprehensive investment in the instruction, advising, and experience that are essential to prepare New Yorkers for 21st-century tech jobs in NYC. All CUNY 2x Tech faculty and staff members will play a critical role in ensuring that the college's tech education is aligned with industry demand. The role will involve significant work directly with NYC-based industry partners and the NYC Tech Talent Pipeline to review curricula, provide feedback on students' job-readiness, teach in the classroom, and ensure that overall tech education provided by the college is preparing students with the academic and career readiness skills they need to succeed.
The Mathematics & Computer Science Department of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice invites applications for a full-time Senior College Laboratory Technician position to begin February 1, 2020. The successful candidate will perform supervisory and/or complex technical computer functions in Math & CS Department computer laboratories in support of coursework and research. Specific duties include the following:
-Maintains, installs, modifies, and updates computer/network equipment and software in all Math & CS Dept. computer labs.
-Determines equipment requirements, prepares purchase specifications and coordinates acquisitions.
-Trains and supervises College Laboratory Technicians, College Assistants, and other laboratory staff.
-Manages set up, maintenance, and organization of student laboratories.
-Maintains safe computing environments and enforces CUNY and college computer use policies.
-Documents laboratory activities.
-Works with Department of Information Technology where appropriate to maintain lab and network computing environments.
-Performs related duties as assigned.
The Mathematics & Computer Science Department at John jay College offers the Computer Science & Information Security major, which leads to the B.S. degree, and the Digital Forensics and Cyber Security M.S. degree program. In addition, the department offers the Applied Mathematics Major with specializations in Data Analytics and Cryptography. The Department also offers a wide range of mathematics service courses that allow students to fulfill college-wide and major specific requirements.
High School Diploma with a minimum of eight years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience. This position also requires the ability to direct train, and supervise others.
An M.S. degree in computer science or related field is desirable. The successful candidate will have experience with both Windows and Linux operating system environments. The position requires the ability to supervise students and college lab assistants.
