Summary of Duties:
The Department of Astronomy, within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks a Research Assistant 2 to join our team. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. The qualified individual will work with optical and infrared high-resolution spectra of hot stars to derive stellar parameters and abundances. They will also work on identifying and analyzing binary systems with hot stars and compare results derived from spectroscopic analysis with results from asteroseismic and dynamical analysis.
Bachelor’s degree in astronomy, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Ability to translate, adapt, and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of physical science research; experience in a physical science research capacity is required.
Previous experience in analysis of hot stars in the near-infrared, preferably using the Global Stellar Parameters Pipeline code, including modeling of spectrograph response and underlying noise.
Target Salary: $15.00 - $16.00 Hourly
