A Research Assistant position is available in the Valiyaveetil group at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon. The Valiyaveetil group investigates the structure and function of ion channels and transporters using a combination of structural biology, spectroscopy, unnatural amino acid mutagenesis, and electrophysiology. The group is a part of the Program in Chemical Biology in the Department of Chemical Physiology and Biochemistry.
The Valiyaveetil lab is well equipped to carry out structural and functional studies of ion channels and transporters. OHSU provides an excellent scientific environment. Portland is consistently rated as one of the most livable cities in the US.
The Research Assistant will participate in research projects of the lab. This is a unique opportunity to learn cutting edge techniques in membrane protein research and with experience, the opportunity to conduct an independent research project.
Protein Expression/Purification/Functional Characterization
Data analysis, maintaining laboratory notebook
General laboratory maintenance, ordering research supplies
Bachelor's Degree with major courses in field of research / No Experience; OR Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience
Ability to exercise judgment in taking independent action, and seek advice as necessary
Creativity and problem-solving ability
BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics or a related discipline
1-2 years of research experience in peptide chemistry/organic synthesis or in protein biochemistry
