Department Description The Stem Cell Research Program within Internal Medicine is a state of the art basic and translational science and research program committed to finding treatments and cures for debilitating human diseases and injuries utilizing both human adult and embryonic stem cells. The Umbilical Cord Blood Collection Program (UCBCP) is a state-funded program administered by a team from the Stem Cell Program with the mission to collect high quality cord blood units at locations across the state for public banking and for research. THIS IS NOT AN H1- B OPPORTUNITY ResponsibilitiesThe Clinical Research Coordinator is responsible for recruitment, consent and demographic eligibility of interested mothers and collects cord blood, arranges for collection of maternal blood samples and coordinates transport of samples to the Institute for Regenerative Cures at UCDHS. The Clinical Research Coordinator supports the partner cord blood bank safety, GMP and Quality plans. Required Qualifications
Minimum 2 years phlebotomy experience in a hospital or laboratory setting. Required.
Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures in a Hospital or Laboratory setting. Required.
Phlebotomy Certification. Required.
Knowledge of proper documentation, organization, inventory management. Required.
Knowledge of client confidentiality, integrity, and discretion with patients and hospital staff. Required
Experience handling biological samples, sterility, and cell therapy, preferred.
Informed patient consent and medical terminology, preferred.
Work with a computer key board frequently throughout the day.
Must be able to stand long hours
Must be able to communicate clearly
Presentations to birthing classes and at health fairs will be required.
Travel costs for training (airfare, hotel and food) will be reimbursed.
Position requires night and weekend work (approx. 11PM-7:30AM shift, Sun-Thurs) upon completion of training
This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
