Essential Job Duties:
The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the management of the daily activities of the Hazardous Waste Management program for the University. The Hazardous Waste Management Program includes all chemical waste (hazardous and nonhazardous), radioactive waste, biological waste, and universal waste. This position will be responsible for daily waste characterizations of online waste submittals, managing lab moves, pick up/transportation/disposal/management of biological waste program, laboratory/non-laboratory waste audits, assists in the management of Lot 86 site, and other duties as assigned.
The position also has responsibilities in the hazardous materials transportation and emergency response programs.

Bachelor’s degree in a Physical Science, Biological Science, Environmental Science/Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Technology or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Some positions may require additional training, certifications, or licensure. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Must be able to obtain and keep a CDL with HazMat Endorsement.
Must be able to lift 50lbs with repetition and without strain, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Must be able to drive long distances.
Must be able to wear a respirator or an SCBA.
Demonstrates ability to stay current on emerging industry trends and regulations and incorporate necessary changes into the University Biological Waste Program.
Demonstrates considerable knowledge of University local, state and federal regulation/guidelines for the University hazardous waste program.
Demonstrates considerable skills, knowledge and ability in providing technical support, analysis and consultative services associated with management of the University Hazardous Waste Program.
Applies considerable knowledge and understanding of environmental principals, practices, and equipment to determine if proper methods and procedures are utilized and to promote compliance with applicable regulations in the management of the University Hazardous Waste Program.
Demonstrates ability to successfully and effectively interact with customers.
Applies technical knowledge of hazardous waste in order to approve waste submissions, schedule pick-ups, manage laboratory clean outs and moves, and complete associated record keeping.
Demonstrates considerable skills, knowledge and ability while performing emergency response functions: may provide technical expertise and/or assist other responding agencies with the Emergency Response.
Ability to provide technical knowledge of Bio Waste when approving waste submissions, scheduling pickups, managing the storage and disposal of the waste and completing associated record keeping.
