1) The Assistant Director of Career Services, Placement and Employer Relations, is a key member of the Department of Computer Science.
2) Provide a broad spectrum of career services to facilitate the success of Computer Science students ( MS, and PhD) who pursue internships and careers in industry.Â To that end, the Assistant Director is responsible for the development and delivery of comprehensive and innovative career management training, coordinating recruitment activities in the Department of Computer Science, and curating a portfolio of employers interested in recruiting Computer Science students at all levels of study.
3) Provide quality one-on-one career advising to facilitate the post-graduation objectives of individual graduate Computer Science students pursuing employment opportunities in industry. The Assistant Director would specifically provide one-on-one advising to students in the Masters Program in Computer Science, the Master of Science in Computational Analysis and Public Policy, the Joint MBA/MS Program, and the PhD program.
4) Collaborate closely with the undergraduate Career Advancement office and UChicagoGRADâ™s career services staff, by coordinating activities and identifying opportunities for collaboration.
5) Develop and implement short and long range goals, objectives and strategies related to the training and advising programs; educate employers on the process through which to hire students in Computer Science; provide career advising (resume reviews, mock interviews, job searches, employment trends) to individuals and groups; plan and manage various Career Services initiatives, including networking events and industry panels; manage the delivery of career management workshops conducted by Career Advancement, UChicagoGRAD, and outside experts; oversee the content and production of a career development guide and other supporting training materials; collaborate with career services staff to manage relationships with recruiters, staff, faculty, alumni, and student club leaders; develop and manage online career resources; and represent the Department of Computer Science and the University of Chicago at local, regional and national hiring events and career fairs.
6) Assist with the administration of on-campus recruiting programs, career fairs, writing grant proposals, and collecting, preparing and analyzing statistical information and reports concerning Career Services activities.
7) Cultivate and sustain relationships with companies that have established campus recruiting relationships with the Department of Computer Science and build new relationships with employers interested in hiring Computer Science students, and to coordinate these activities with employer relations teams in the undergraduate and graduate career offices.
8) This position includes domestic travel (approximately 10-20%) to meet with recruiting teams and campus contacts.Implement year-round outreach strategies to generate employment opportunities for Computer Science students and alumni--using alumni listings, referrals from students, job postings, industry conferences, and other sources and market these opportunities to the appropriate Computer Science constituency; employ knowledge of all Computer Science constituencies and resources to develop recruiting and branding strategies that meet corporate partners talent sourcing goals.
9) Manage or coordinate all aspects of campus recruiting for companies interested in recruiting Computer Science students.
10) Collaborate closely with staff and faculty across Computer Science, in driving strategic engagement at key employers, particularly large technology firms.
11) Partner with team members, Employer Relations colleagues, Career Management, and Corporate Relations to share company and industry knowledge.
12) Maintain current and timely outreach records and communicating regularly with Employer Relations teams in the undergraduate Career Advancement office and in UChicagoGRAD.
13) Partner with various internal and external constituencies on behalf of the Department of Computer Science including student groups, alumni clubs, Admissions, Alumni and Development, Executive Education, Student Program offices, Booth alumni, faculty centers, and corporate partners in order to effectively and creatively engage contacts and companies.
1) Significant knowledge of and experience using on-line resources, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
2) Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and comfort with learning and adopting new systems and business processes.
3) Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills, as well as organizational and project management skills.
4) Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated initiative, and the ability to work both independently/remotely while maintaining strong communication and connection to a central team.
5) An understanding of and appreciation for the needs and concerns of a diverse Computer Science student and alumni population.
6) Manage multiple projects simultaneously; meet strict deadlines; and work successfully in a fast-paced environment that has frequent interruptions.
7) Demonstrated ability to work effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, as well as with students, faculty and corporate contacts in a multitude of communication methods i.e., in person, email, phone.
8) Handle confidential information with tact and good judgment.
9) Professional demeanor, including tact, discretion, and a deep commitment to a customer service-oriented approach.
1) Bachelors degree or Masters degree in Computer Science or a related field
1) A minimum of three years professional experience working in corporate recruiting, business careers, relationship management, or higher education.
2) Experience in sales, specifically cold calling employers to source job opportunities.
3) Extensive work experience in developing and delivering career management training and career advising services to students in higher education, specifically in Computer Science.
4) Knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs of student populations from countries outside the United States.
5) Ability to work under pressure, with the flexibility to respond to changing priorities and fluctuating workloads.
6) Strong interpersonal skills are required to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, alumni, prospective students, recruiters, faculty, staff, and professionals from other institutions and associations.
7) Ability to market the Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago to current and prospective recruiters.
8) Prior relationship management and marketing experience. Skills in organizing work, defining tasks, prioritizing assignments, and following through on all projects independently.
9) Ability to think strategically, develop and execute operational plans and manage multiple projects and priorities.
10) Knowledge of computerized career center database programs, understanding of website development/maintenance, ability to effectively use MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel. â¢ Strong platform communications experience. Experience in oral presentations to large and medium sized groups.
11) Ability to work some nights and weekends to fulfill job duties.
12) Strong interest in computer science and knowledge of current technology and recruiting trends.
