The English, Philosophy, Spanish and Humanities Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Poetry, appointment to begin in the fall 2020 semester. The successful colleague will strive to maintain an ongoing record of publication in addition to teaching a 4/4 course load including a range of coursework in creative writing, literature, and composition in an active undergraduate creative writing program. The successful candidate should be committed to excellence in teaching, working closely with students, and collaborating with department colleagues.
Duties also include student advising, contribution to student growth and development, participation in department and institutional activities, committee assignments, evaluating student performance, program assessment as well as assessment benefitting the liberal education program, scholarly and/or creative activities, development/delivery of web-based courses and service to the university and community. Other possible responsibilities could include working with the dual enrollment program and assisting with campus literary events.
A PhD in creative writing. An MFA with a reputable history of publication and/or awards will be considered.
Experience teaching first year composition, creative writing/poetry workshop, and some literature.
Demonstrated ability or proven strategies to teach and work with persons from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated commitment or proven strategies for fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.
Candidates who can contribute diversity to the curriculum in terms of the consideration of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, etc.
