Essential Job Duties:
The Research Assistant position will assist faculty, post-doctoral researchers, and graduate students in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of lab and field experiments, as well as monitor stations in the field. The position will be responsible for the design and program of electronic control systems. The position will construct specialized monitoring equipment to be used by lab staff and students. The Research Assistant will assist faculty and staff in running preliminary research data analysis. The position will assist in the review and writing of research results for journal articles, as well as assist with presenting research results at meetings and professional scientific and engineering conferences, and will also be included as co-author on scientific publications.
The position will also be responsible for checking unit inventory and maintaining lab and field instruments and tools. The position will also supervise undergraduate lab workers. Travel to conferences will occasionally be needed, depending on departmental and faculty requests.
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree, or relevant Bachelor’s degree plus 3 or more years of independent research experience, or substantative relevant independent experience and education. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Knowledge of electronic circuit design and control systems programing (such as Arduino microcontrollers, raspberry pi, or Campbell data loggers) that are routinely used to control hydrological apparatus.
Prepare tables, figures, and illustrations of the research data, throughout the data analysis protocol.
Must be capable of using all manners of shop tools, wood, Plexiglas, and metalworking, and have a competent knowledge of hardware applications.
Experience in the area of water resources management (natural and man-made treatment systems to treat excess nutrients in streams, rivers, wetlands and nurseries), including field work and equipment monitoring.
Required license or certification:
A valid drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
