Rhode Island School of Design is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant to join its Health Services Office. The Health Services Center provides high-quality, confidential healthcare services to students in an ambulatory care setting, including RN triage for first aid/emergent care, acute care visits and referrals to specialists. Under the Administrative Director, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of clinical support duties in a college health setting. This position assesses medical need and urgency, both in person and telephonically, performs vital signs, records clinical information in electronic medical record. The Medical Assistant also maintains safe, effective and clean exam rooms, and collects, and processes lab specimens, including phlebotomy. This position processes insurance referrals and communicates clinical plans with students, as determined by providers.

Serve as central point of clinical contact in a campus medical office serving a diverse population of students.
Receive walk-in requests for clinical care and triage clinical phone calls, assessing student needs and arranging for appropriate care depending on the type, urgency and severity of need.
Support clinicians by interviewing students, obtaining medical histories, obtaining vital signs, and maintaining accurate and up to date electronic health records.
Maintain safe, effective, and clean exam rooms by frequent touch-point surface cleaning, sterilizing and ensuring the availability of instruments as needed, and ordering/restocking medical supplies.
Collect and process lab specimens, including phlebotomy, throat cultures, wound cultures and urine specimens.
Provide clinician chaperone for all sensitive/invasive clinical exams and/or when requested by student/patients.
Assist with minor office procedures under direct clinician supervision.
Process insurance referrals and connect students with appropriate community resources.
Relay clinical information by phone or email as directed by the provider. Call in prescriptions and connect with community partners regarding shared patient care.
Adhere to and maintain strictly enforced confidentiality policy.
Medical Assistant Certification required
Three to five years experience as a medical assistant in an outpatient setting.
Phlebotomy certification (or equivalent training and experience) required
Previous experience with electronic medical records systems required
Demonstrated computer experience and ability to use Word, Excel, and Google Suite
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to exercise discretion
Valued but not required skills and experience:
Experience with Medicat strongly preferred.
20/Week; 9-month (academic year)
Monday- Thursday: 4 PM - 8 PM
Sunday: 10 AM - 2 PM
