Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse for the Department of Family Medicine & Community Health at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Working collaboratively with physicians and under the clinical supervision of the Medical Director, the Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) provides medical evaluations and ongoing medication treatment to patients. The specific protocols of treatment are worked out by the APN and the collaborating physician(s) through a practice agreement. The APN provides consultation to clinical staff regarding patient care issues, and may also provide formal in-service education and training to other employees. The APN participates in a collegial relationship with the physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals, performs in an expanding nursing role and has the responsibility for meeting the needs of a determined number of patients using a primary care model. This position requires a high level of professional responsibility, medical judgement, and ability to take personal initiative while working as part of a team.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Participates in data collection related to the Hospitalist patients' status and needs
Provides direct patient care within scope of practice to ensure implementation of the plan of care
Informs and instructs patients/significant others on patient's health/illness state and plan of care
Documents all aspects of patient care in EMR system
Is knowledgeable of and initiates emergency procedures
Administers medications and parenteral therapy in accordance with established policies
Reports all necessary information and/or unusual occurrences in accordance with established policies and procedures
Minimum Education and Experience:
Certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of New Jersey
At least two (2) years of related advanced practice nurse experience preferred
Must maintain current CPR for healthcare provider certification
Demonstrated experience in treating a diverse patient population
Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred
