DEFINITION: Under the general direction of thePrincipal Investigator under the NASA Cooperative Agreement the Software Engineer is responsible for assisting with data production and operations including automation of data acquisition, processing, analysis and distribution of satellite and meteorological data. Project focus: Remote Sensing of Agriculture and Water Resources. The main objective of the proposed research is to develop satellite-derived information products to enhance the management of water resources for agriculture.
ESSENTIALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Work with the Principal Investigator (PI), scientists and software engineers in the NASA Agriculture and Water Satellite Monitoring lab to develop and maintain Python software for production and analysis of new satellite-derived information products for agricultural products and water resource managers.
Develop and maintain automated workflows for retrieval and management of satellite and meteorological datasets working in high performance and cloud-based computing environments.
Develop software to support integration of web data services with mobile applications.
Work collaboratively with PI, research scientists, and resource managers to identify data retrieval and processing needs and prepare requirements documents describing data processing tools.
Develop testing and validation software for existing data processing workflows and environments.
Author documentation for new and existing software libraries and workflows.
Manage, maintain and enhance scripts for interaction with MySQL and PostgreSQL databases for integration with production software.
Provide technical support for a diverse user community including scientists and resource managers.
Assist in preparation of detailed and accurate scientific reports and publications.
Foster and maintain collaborative links with local groups and individuals, including agencies, research organizations, and the community in general.
Promotes and maintains an atmosphere of excellent internal and external customer service within the department and the campus community.
Attends workshops, conferences as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Assists with other projects as needed.

Ability to complete and pass on-line defensive driving training. Must continue to meet the established driving standards as a condition of employment.

Compensation and Benefits:
The University Corporation is committed to providing our employees with a comprehensive program that rewards efforts that are appreciated by your colleagues, students, and the customers we serve. The salary range for this position is $5,833-$7,083 per month commensurate with experience. This is an exempt position and as such is not eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and life insurance benefits, contributory retirement plan, TSA (403b), 13 paid holidays per year and other benefits.
