The Center for Genomics and Systems Biology (CGSB) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Research Associate in the Functional Genomics group.
We are a research group using High-Throughput (HTP) screening of whole organisms (microbes, nematodes) and High-Content Phenotypic profiling (HCP) of mammalian cells to identify and characterize bioactive natural products from microbial sources in the Gulf region. The main responsibility would be to work with other scientists and technicians on the discovery of bioactive natural products from marine bacteria and repurpose the compounds from existing chemical libraries using the high-content screening platform. The position will also include collaborative work with other principal investigators, including assay development, training personnel in other labs and maintenance of the high-content screening platform. The ideal candidate will have a Masters degree in cell & molecular biology or chemical biology, with +2 years' of experience in chemical biology research. The candidate is expected to have extensive experience in cell culture and cell-based assay development, with detailed mind for optimizing assays and generating quality data. Experience in high-content or high-throughput screening and lab automation is highly desirable. Knowledge in chemical characterization is an advantage.
Perform mammalian cell culture, cell-based assays, and standard molecular biological techniques
Operate and maintain automated liquid-handlers, High-content screening platform and other integrated robotic equipment
Work with other scientists to develop and optimize new assays using High-Content Phenotypic profiling platform
Perform chemical and genetic screens of mammalian cell using High-Content Phenotypic profiling platform and other screening technologies
Employ advanced imaging instrumentation and software (e.g. HTP confocal microscopes, high-content cell analysis packages) to characterize cell morphological phenotypes
Train personnel from other labs for the usage of High-content screening platform.
Additional Preferred Skills:
Working knowledge of natural product extraction and characterization
Working experience with lab automation and high-content or high-throughput screening.
The project will be based at NYU Abu Dhabi and will be supervised by Dr. Kristin C. Gunsalus.
The terms of employment include highly competitive salary, housing allowance, and other benefits. Applications are accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. To be considered, all applicants must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, transcript of degree, a one-page summary of research accomplishments and interests, and at least 2 letters of recommendation, all in PDF format.
