The Ohio State University College of Medicine’s Department of Surgery is seeking an exceptional academic physician-scholar with proven leadership skills to become the next division director of Colon and Rectal Surgery. The Department of Surgery is led by Chair Timothy Pawlik, MD, PhD, MPH, MTS, and comprises nine surgical specialty divisions and several multidisciplinary centers. The department performs more than 18,000 cases annually and is ranked 6th by the Blue Ridge rankings for National Institutes of Health funding among surgery departments nationally.
This unique and innovative leadership position will require the candidate to be collaborative and forward-thinking to lead the division. This is a full-time professor appointment that will provide the successful candidate with the chance to develop and expand the clinical, academic and educational programs within the Colon and Rectal Surgery division.
This leadership role will have an important presence in the Department of Surgery, The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and the College of Medicine.
In FY19, the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery had seven faculty members and one ACGME-accredited colorectal resident, performed 1,374 OR cases and 824 colonoscopies, had 30,434 wRVUs and had three active grants. Its standout programs are Specialized Pelvic Floor Disorders Ambulatory Clinic, Inflammatory Bowel, Center for Colorectal Transitional Care, Anal Cancer Screening Program and Colorectal Cancer.
Eight to 10 years of strong faculty clinical, academic and mentorship
Experience with service line development and
Completion of an ACGME-accredited general surgery residency and colorectal surgery
Board-certified in general surgery and colon and rectal
Strong track record of clinical operations
Demonstrated leadership skills in building innovative programs as well as recruiting and retaining
Commitment to recruiting, developing and retaining women, underserved minorities and those with disability status.
