Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a motivated Research Teaching III, for the Department of Cancer Pharmacology at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The Research Teaching Specialist III is responsible for assisting with the organization, daily operation, research and administrative duties in the laboratory. This includes designing and executing cutting edge experiments in molecular and cell biology as directed by the principal investigator, helping with the management of the mouse colony as well as with routine mouse experiments.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assists with routine cancer research laboratory projects (tissue culture, molecular biology techniques and/or mouse experiments) as directed by the Principal Investigator.
Receives incoming supplies, opens, unpacks, and verifies that the number of items received agree with packingslip. Follows established procedures for processing paperwork and follow-up on orders.
Develops and implements new lab protocols.
Troubleshoots technical protocols.
Assists with the training and mentoring of all new personnel in the lab (students, postdocs, technicians, etc).
Assists in the preparation of grant applications for the funding of research activities.
Maintains orderly storage of frozen and processed samples.
Compiles and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions and recommendations
Assists Principal Investigator in routine maintenance of laboratory equipment as directed.
Assists in shipping and receiving research specimens.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master's Degree in Biology or a relevant science plus one (1) year related research experience.
Bachelor's Degree in Biology or a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to organize assigned laboratory work and develop effective work methods.
Ability to follow laboratory safety policies and perform simple laboratory procedures.
Proficiency with database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Lifting up to 25 lbs.
