The Michigan State University (MSU) IT Services Project Manager II (PM-II) is responsible for planning and tracking medium to large programs and projects of medium to high complexity and risk, supporting the academic and administrative business requirements of MSU. The type of projects include, but are not limited to, software application development and implementation, infrastructure implementations/installations, process re-engineering, and implementation of process improvements. The Project Manager optimizes the utilization of staff resources to achieve the business objectives of the project within the project scope, schedule and budget. The Project Manager utilizes the MSU IT Services project management processes and tools, and provides direction and oversight to the project team in the completion of project deliverables.
MSU Information Technology provides the primary leadership for strategic, financial, and policy initiatives affecting information technology (IT) across MSU. MSU IT offers technology resources that support MSU’s mission of providing education, conducting research, and advancing engagement.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Project Management, or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; and five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in project management including the leadership of medium to large size projects; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. • Ability to identify, track, report, and mitigate project risks • Experience with IT project risk management • Risk Management Certification • Risk Management experience on a student information system • Risk Management experience in higher education environment • Familiar with PMI risk management procedures • Proficient with MS Office Suite including MS Project • Experience using a formal project management methodology. • Experience in PM process improvement
