The primary goal of the Writing Center Liaison: College Readiness Guide is to support students as they transition from high school to colJege. This position will primarily focus on connecting with,Students in our First-Year Composition courses who are struggling as college writers. Additionally, this position will contribute to our tutoring collaboration at Harlandale High School. Applicants are not required to have prior knowledge of writing tutoring pedagogy.
Training will be provided.
Work closely with FYC faculty and students to create a writing-centered community that will support students as they transition between high school, college, and beyond.
Facilitate communication between FYC students and available resources.
Build upon student's language, culture, and literacy practices as resources for transfer.
Coordinate workshops and one-on-one meetings with students to establish goals that promote academic consistency.
Occasionally attend FYC classes/ faculty meetings to develop an understanding of student needs within the program.
Harlandale High School Lunch Time Tutoring Collaboration
Work closely with peer tutors and students to foster positive academic practices in all subject areas.
Contribute to organizing small monthly events at Harlandale to promote the tutoring program.
Collaborate with the Mays Center to coordinate class visits and recruit volunteer tutors.
Assist in the creation of marketing materials
Facilitate and attend training initiatives for both peer and volunteer tutors.
Applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree in related field.
Applicants must demonstrate clear communication, initiative, and accountability.
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to extend patience and empathy to learners from a variety of backgrounds at all stages of the learning process.
Applicants must demonstrate an investment in working with student writers.
Applicants must have a valid driver's license and be able to pass a background check.
Experience working with community partners and developing programs is preferred.
Previous experience as a writing tutor is not required, but will be preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Canva is a plus.
