Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is currently searching for an Assistant Director of Facilities to join the Facilities Department. This is a regular, full-time, exempt position, and is eligible for benefits.
Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities & Services, this position is responsible for the effective, cost-efficient, and timely management of facilities and services functions. Major responsibilities require experience in HVAC, Mechanical and Electrical systems.
Specific duties will be assigned by the Director of Facilities and may include any of the following areas: plant operations, maintenance, carpenter shop, and electrical shop.
Assists with development of operating and capital budgets; manages budgets for assigned areas of responsibility.
Assists in development, expansion, and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems throughout the physical plant; including drawings, manuals and parts lists for buildings and their installed equipment.
Manages assigned projects, including outside contractors.
Assists in selection and monitoring of outside vendors of products and services.
Evaluates performance of supervisors of assigned functions.
Plays major role in storm and emergency management and response.
Education & Experience
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or equivalent with at least 5-8 years of experience in a plant engineering/facilities engineering environment is required; or Associates degree with 8-10 years experience is required.
Direct experience with HVAC, electrical, and mechanical project management required.
At least three years related supervisory/managerial experience required.
Project Management experience preferred.
Basic AutoCAD or other drawing program preferred.
Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to, ability to lift less than 25 lbs independently, 3 times per day; carry 0-10 lbs, 3 times per day. Visual abilities to include near, far, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to distinguish basic colors. Hearing requirements include the ability to hear and respond to instructions, communicate effectively in loud areas (pier/dock, warehouse). Other physical tasks include occasional prolonged standing/walking; use of hands for basic /fine grasping and manipulation, reaching above and below the shoulders, kneeling, bending, twisting, stooping, and climbing ladders/stools. Other occupational requirements include talking, working around others and with others. Will be exposed to dust or other irritants and electrical/mechanical/power equipment hazards, excessive cold, excessive heat or humidity, dust or other irritants, grease and oils, severe weather conditions, and prolonged work hours as projects may require. Physical duties are subject to change.
