ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT Bellevue College's (BC) Workforce Education (WE) department provides high-touch academic advising; jump-start funding, connection to support, and employment services to eligible students who are underemployed and/or low income. The aim of BC's WE program is to provide access to educational career pathways and financial resources and support that increase the students' skills and employability and lead to high wage/high demand employment.
POSITION DUTIES Financial Aid, Technical information assistance Monitor workforce program activities in relation to established program goals; within established program parameters, determines Screen, prioritize and respond appropriately to incoming financial aid telephone calls; resolve problems, and respond to inquiries. Assist students to understand and navigate complex processes and procedures related to financial aid and tuition payment. Make appropriate referrals to other campus and community resources if needed Financial Aid appeal review for Satisfactory Academic Progress Identifies what needs to be done and proactively takes appropriate action; Focus on results and desired outcomes and how best to achieve them Independently resolve client/customer problems by identifying the issues, determine procedural steps necessary to bring resolution, working with program staff to implement resolution, and communicating results to client/customer. Conduct Workforce Education Financial Aid information sessions and other presentations as needed. Works closely with registration/admission staff to register students and resolve program coding and tuition issues. Lead in team projects, planning, cross-training and quality improvement efforts to improve services. Administrative Support Greet and welcome prospective, new and continuing students with excellent customer service skills. Provide Financial Aid training to Workforce Education students Manage Social Media and Web maintenance Serve as liaison to assigned work groups to collect and share updates and programmatic changes in services and procedures. Skill in building and maintaining internal/external customer satisfaction. An appreciation of diversity and the benefits of a commitment to cultural awareness and sensitivity in the workplace. Ethics, integrity, and sound professional judgment. Tact and diplomacy in responding to difficult, stressful, or sensitive interpersonal situations in ways that reduce or minimize potential conflict and maintain good working relationships among internal and external customers. Perform other duties as assigned.
Associates Degree in related field or two years relevant work experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis Demonstrated ability to provide customer assistance regarding inquiries, complaints and problem solving Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, email, and other business related software. Demonstrated ability to show effective verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Effectively communicate complex information. Demonstrated ability to ability to multi-task and use time management techniques to complete work within given time periods.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in Higher Education setting One year of professional experience supporting diverse populations, low income clients, populations with significant barriers to employment and/or dislocated workers Experience working in Financial Aid
