Colleges, Housing and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi-funded organization within the Business and Administrative Services (BAS) division at the University of California (UC) Santa Cruz. CHES provides leadership in the areas of college student life and residential services, housing services, facilities, employee housing and capital planning, dining services, conference services, early education services, the Bay Tree Bookstore, ID card services, and business and financial analysis for these areas. Through these units, educational and developmental programs and services are offered to all members of the campus community including students, faculty, staff, children and external constituents.
Services provided by the Community Safety Program support over two million GSF of residential facilities housing over 9,500 residential students in CHES managed housing on and off campus. Ten residential colleges, The Village, Family Student Housing, Graduate Housing, Camper Park, and University Town Center. Summer season programs include summer school and summer conferences which bring numerous conference groups and over 13,000 conferees to the campus.
Under the general supervision of the Community Safety Program Coordinator, the Community Safety Officer Supervisor is responsible for directly supervising two to five Community Safety Officers (CSOs) in their zone. Provides nightly safety and security for residents, employees, families and campus visitors as well as the facilities of designated residential communities during their work shift. The Community Safety Officer Supervisors provide team leadership to the CSOs who provide services to communities ranging from 600 to 2000 residents and approximately 1000 or more summer guests. Community Safety Officer Supervisors work closely with campus emergency response personnel (University Campus Police Department and Santa Cruz Fire Department) as well as Residential Life staff to provide a safe and secure environment in each residential community.
