Montclair State University, designated as a public research university, is New Jerseyâ™s second largest university, with a beautiful 252-acre campus approximately 12 miles from New York City. Because of the great importance of the Campus Business Services to Montclair Stateâ™s future, the University has undertaken a re-organization to better align these functions under a new senior leadership position.
The Associate Vice President for Campus Business Services reports to the President through the Vice President for Student Development and Campus Life. The Associate Vice President has direct responsibility for Campus Business Services, which currently generate revenue in excess of $20 million dollars annually with significant potential for growth. The unit includes: management of noninstructional campus utilization, including rentals and marketing, conferences, the campus master schedule, and major campus events; management of auxiliary services, including dining, bookstore, student center, campus card and debit programs, and off-campus merchant programs; and management of professional athletic partnerships, including the Ice Arena and the Arenaâ™s professional management partner, the Yogi Berra Baseball Stadium and the relationship with the NJ Jackals, the Soccer Park and the relationship with the Red Bulls II, and the Universityâ™s Recreation Center. Overall, the Associate Vice President has responsibility for the cultivation, maintenance and expansion of campus business partnerships that are beneficial to the University and that bring innovative and entrepreneurial ideas to the management of the Universityâ™s resources.
Montclair State University seeks an individual with strong leadership qualities who is able to understand the mission of the University, who has the capacity to create a vision for a Campus Business Services unit that will contribute in significant ways to that mission, and who has the ability to implement that vision effectively. Preferred qualifications for the position of Associate Vice President for Campus Business Services include the following: a minimum of ten years of substantial university business experience or business experience readily translatable to a public university environment; strong management skills; a track record of successful business development; strong knowledge and experience in implementing and using data management systems; experience working with complex physical facilities and campus environments; real estate experience; knowledge of business issues related to athletics and athletic facilities, dining operations and facilities, and retail operations; strong budgeting, procurement, and contract skills; excellent management and human resource skills; excellent communication skills; and, at a minimum, an undergraduate degree and preferably an MBA or other related graduate degree.
