The Work-Study Assistant | Driver, under general supervision of the Transportation Center, will operate a bus and all related equipment in a safe and efficient manner while obeying all traffic law and department policies and procedures.
Drives Prairie View A&M University transit routes as scheduled.
Operates assigned equipment in a safe manner and in adherence to all University and Transit policies as well as local, state, and federal laws.
Assists managers and supervisors in the training of new drivers by teaching and demonstrating driving techniques, evaluating and providing feedback to the drivers, and providing follow-up or re-training as necessary.
Reports any potentially hazardous vehicle maintenance or safety issues immediately to supervisor.
Conduct a proper “pre” and “post” trip vehicle inspection and note any discrepancies at the beginning and ending of every shift. Properly fuels all assigned vehicles that are returned to Transit unless otherwise instructed.
Maintain and clean equipment assigned during shift.
Detail rental vehicles, buses or carts, make pick-ups via car, van, or cart, or helping out as office support with the Administrative staff or within the Maintenance shop.
Continue to work various special events, i.e. graduation, sporting events, etc.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Presently enrolled for at least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
Must be in academic good standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA
No prior experience necessary
For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least six (6) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Able to work 11:00 AM ? 2:00 PM and/or 5:00 PM ? 10:00 PM
Able to obtain State of Texas Class "B" vehicle operator's license after training
Work an average of 12 hours per week
Work a minimum of seven (7) special events during the fall and one (1) during the spring in addition to the minimum of 12 hours worked per week
