Position Summary: SUNY Geneseo is one of Diverse: Issues In Higher Education 2020 Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs. The Department of Academic Planning & Advising (DAPA) is seeking a summer advising intern. Duties of the position will include first year orientation support, specifically coordination of advising registration process: Assign first-year students to registration appointments using the Argos administrative system. Coordinate and track changes to registration appointments as requested. Build advisor schedules for each registration session & confirm advisor participation. Duties will also include outreach & programmatic support: Field questions and concerns from parents and students regarding advising and course registration during orientation check-in. Represent the DAPA office at the Information Fair to answer questions from students and parents. Design & order marketing materials for the Information Fair. Address questions and concerns of incoming students regarding their schedules and academic progress via email and phone following their participation in orientation. Support DAPA staff in developing block schedules for students exploring major programs.
Duties will also include transfer student support: Serve as staff support for incoming transfer students: Communicate with incoming students who have not completed the necessary registration survey and those with holds preventing registration. Respond to incoming transfer students questions re: course equivalency and scheduling processes. Support the management/administration of transfer folders: Track transfer student folder distribution and assignments during the scheduling process. Prepare Advising Worksheets for transfer students' folders. Assist DAPA office with spreadsheet of courses requiring transfer articulation.
Required Qualifications Bachelors degree completed by time of appointment. Campus involvement as an undergraduate student in new student orientation, residence life, student organization, or similar area. A commitment to the institutional values of diversity and inclusion. Present a well-mannered and professional image.
Preferred Qualifications Desirable qualities include: hard-working, self-motivated, solid ethical decision-making skills and the ability to think quickly and critically, adaptable to change, flexible, clear and concise communication skills, solid organizational and conflict resolution skills.
Prior experience in database management and Microsoft Excel.
