This position is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of Harvard's Committee on Microbiological Safety (COMS) [Harvard's IBC], as well as technical outreach, biosafety education and training efforts led by the COMS Director at Harvard Medical School (HMS). COMS supports not only HMS but 8 other Harvard schools, affiliated medical or research institutions. Duties include organizing and implementing procedures related to the COMS process, gathering and maintaining data for and assisting in preparing reports, developing meeting agendas and drafting meeting minutes, prepare correspondence, reports and other materials, providing for smooth day-to-day flow of communications within the unit.

Five or more years of related experience. Education beyond highschool may count toward experience. Competency using a variety of computer software including Microsoft (Office, Excel, Powerpoint) and experience with conducting a literature search.
Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred in a scientific discipline such as Biology, Microbiology, Public Health. Candidates that have scientific training through education or prior employment are preferred. Experience in and understanding of biological safety including biosafety levels, laboratory design, and risk assessment optimal but not required. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion. Strong organizational and ability to work independently essential.
