The Health & Fitness Lab Program Assistant is responsible for assisting the WKU Health & Fitness Lab unit of the Campus Recreation & Wellness Department with providing health and fitness services for the campus community. This will involve administering fitness services, providing customer service, and maintaining inventory on fitness equipment. In addition, their primary role will be to recruit and train new lab assistants for the future. This position works under the direct supervision of the Fitness Coordinator with assistance from the Office Coordinator. This is a temporary part-time position expected to work up to 25 hours per week. Continuation is dependent upon funding/need.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Administer walk-in assessments, fitness testing and exercise prescription on patrons.
Coordinate incoming Lab Assistant training and assist with the development of new Lab Assistants.
Train student lab assistants on Walk-in Assessments (body composition analysis, blood pressure screening, height/weight and circumference measurements) and the Basic Fitness Assessment service (sub-maximal cardiovascular, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance, health risk assessment)
Train student lab assistants on creating and providing Exercise Prescription services inclusive of program design, instruction and demonstration of the proper equipment use and proper form.
Assist with customer service for all Health & Fitness Lab patrons consisting of answering phones, scheduling appointments, point of sale transactions, filing paperwork, and other office procedures.
Maintain monthly inventory on assessment rooms, dance studio and functional training studio equipment.
Participate in outreach and marketing opportunities for the Health & Fitness Lab or Campus Recreation & Wellness as needed.
Coordinate Fitness Center patron evaluations; collect, analyze and interpret the results to review with Supervisor and Fitness Center Attendants.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Professional Staff of the Health & Fitness Lab.
High School Diploma or GED
One year experience in a fitness center setting
One year experience in fitness testing and exercise prescription
Possess a current CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification.
Willingness to work as a productive team member.
A strong desire to learn and grow as a health and fitness professional.
Hourly Rate: $9.00
