The Line Cook is responsible for the preparation of cooked foods in support of the Blackwell Inn, Rohr Cafe and Pfahl Hall Conference Center that serves students, staff, and guests of the University; operates as part of the culinary team; cooks meats, poultry, seafood, as well as breakfast items, pastries, and other baked goods; presents the finished products garnished and ready for service; assists with banquet and catering cooking; prepares restaurant menu items; interacts and improvises dishes directly with customers often in theatrical style; prepares and cleans work area using proper sanitizing techniques; makes menu suggestions; interprets recipes, weighs and measures ingredients; operates standard kitchen equipment; ensures that all food prepared meets standards of excellence. This is a full-time hands-on position for an operation open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and does require evenings, weekends and holidays.
8th grade education plus; one year of full time experience in cooking and food preparation and use of kitchen equipment; knowledge of safety practices; ability to read weights and measures; ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing; ability to read and interpret recipes; ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions; ability to lift 50 pounds; upon completion of the probationary period, must successfully pass specialized, title specific training specified by the department.
Target Salary: $14.04 - $14.04 Hourly
