Apply appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, and repair parts of metal or other weldable materials according to layouts, and sketches using manual welding equipment.
Follow Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
Inspect own welds to make sure all Quality requirements are met.
Follow all safety rules and practices.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Must be able to inspect own finished welds to meet quality standards.
Examines blueprints and plans sequence of operation, applying knowledge of geometry, effects of heat, weld shrinkage, machining, and metal thickness.
Tack welds fitted parts together.
Edge preparation – Prepare, carbon arc, grind, and clean product to be welded.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma and Welding school training completion and certification.
Minimum 5 years of predominantly Stainless Steel and Nickel alloy welding.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Satisfactorily pass vertical and overhead fillet welding as well as groove welding tests using manual welding processes.
Weld using MIG,TIG and SAW processed per ASME code per engineering drawing.
Weld in flat and vertical planes (all position welding).
Knowledge of weld defects and techniques to prevent internal and external weld defects.
Must demonstrate ability to carbon arc gouge and to use the oxy-fuel cutting process.
Understand weld symbols, layout and processes from blue prints.
Able to pass NDT Inspections for Liquid Penetrant and Radiographic Testing.
Knowledge of UT inspection and MAG Particle inspection desirable.
Knowledge of Plasma Arch welding desirable.
Certificates and Licenses
AWS Certified Welder by an accredited AWS certification facility (up to date certification)
May require working above ground (15 ft or more).
Must be able to climb ladders or stairs to reach objects; comfortable with heights.
May require working in narrow or confined work spaces for extended periods of time.
May require frequent kneeling, bending, walking and/or standing for long periods of time.
Move parts into position, manually or by hoist or crane.
Must be able to perform welding work while wearing all required personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a filtering face piece and/or tight fitting respirator.
Day shift; may be requested to work second shift for short durations.
